Gavel – Heritage, Hops & Heart

gavel was conceived by a couple of Auctioneers and a Chef back in 2017 whilst on the British & Irish Lions Rugby Tour of New Zealand. A simple coffee café we had planned, but by the time we opened in February 2018 the plan had morphed into a Coffee, Kitchen & Craft Beer Bar.

Set in a heritage town house in the centre of KL. The open kitchen concept is decorated with street style artwork, and furnished with cultural porcelain pieces and abstract metal works. gavel’s professional approach to a casual dining experience has an emphasis on quality & familiarity, a mid-morning coffee, an office lunch gathering or friends for dinner. gavel is very familiar.

A Feast for the Eyes & Palate

The thinking behind gavel’s menu is somewhat eclectic and combines traditional classic food, keeping it simple, whilst bending the rules a little! A classic Steak & Ale Pie set next to our take on a Vietnamese Beef Pho. A Seafood Pasta alongside Hibachi Grilled Trout Collar, Apple Pie & Custard or a Spiced Poached Pear with Orange Marmalade. Then, of course, there is both gavel’s Classic Beef Wellington and traditional Sunday Roast, both of which are renowned for being amongst, if not, the best in the city!

gavel is a home for craft beer and maintains this concept. No mainstream draught beer. The extensive and constantly updated list of craft beer fits perfectly into the mind-set of what gavel is about. This is complimented by a short but effective wine list, a selection of fresh juices and excellent coffee.
